My passion for learning about the gut microbiome, its influence over the whole of health, and how to rebuild it came about from my own gut imbalance and the consequences it was having on my daily life.
I had unknowingly started to tolerate bloating, abdominal discomfort, heartburn, and weight gain in my life as “getting older”. I had also started developing multiple health issues attributed to auto-immune and inflammation–things like reactive arthritis and chronic uveitis. Again, I wondered, is this just part of getting older? What alerted me that something wasn’t right was when constant fatigue and brain fog set in.
Thus began my journey to restore my health. Multiple paths were approached, a variety of doctors and their varying practices, and a plethora of medicines, supplements, and testing. I am grateful for each approach I tried because they all played a part in leading me to the one that eventually made the biggest difference–which was to treat the root of my symptoms and restore my damaged gut.
Like a tree whose trunk, bark, branches, and leaves are dependent on the health of its root system and the soil that nourishes it, so too is the health of our bodies dependent on our gut and the soil (or gut microbiome) that nourishes it.
I enrolled in the Institute of Integrative Nutrition where I learned invaluable information like the difference between primary foods and secondary foods and how both nourish us. After earning my Integrative Health Coach Certificate, I continued my education in gut health with Dr. Will Bulsiewicz, New York Times Best Selling Author of Fiber Fueled. I am also certified in Plant-Based Nutrition through Dr. T. Colin Campbell.
I hold a Bachelor’s degree in English from the University of California, Irvine and a Multiple-Subject Teaching Credential. I’ve always loved reading, learning, and teaching. I live in Southern California with my husband and two sons. I love sitting in coffeehouses, a brisk morning walk, city lights & sunsets, and eating vegan nachos.
